I've been wondering for months about what to store all my single eyeshadow/blush pans in. I have quite afew from Madina, Stila and Benefit that I either store in there original plastic packaging or in little jiffy bags. Mainly as most magnetic palette options like the Z and Yaby palettes just seem too expensive for there purpose - costing upwards of £10 each.
However I had a light bulb moment in Asda the other day when I noticed that Bodyform were offering a free metal protective tin with there sanitary products. Now I'm sure most of you will know about the offer, as Bodyform have running this offer every few months for the last 2 years or so with all different design of tins. The current offer called 'The Seven Collection' consists of 7 different designed tins which you can view here all really unique and pretty (much too pretty for keeping sanitary towels in to be honest)! The offer is currently in most outlets like Superdrug, Tesco and Boots but Asda is the cheapest at £1.
What you will need -
As you can see you really don't need much - the double sided sticky tape comes in a roll and can be bought any stationary shops or DIY shop and the Magnetic strips or sheets can be bought from eBay or most DIY shops for around £1-2.
The magnetic sheet should be quite bendable and thin so that it can easily be cut with a pair of scissors.
1) You first want to cut the magnetic sheet/strip into small squares - one square for every pan you are putting into the tin.
2) The magnets should have a normal side and a magnetic side - you need to cut a small square off your roll of double sided stick tape and stick it on the normal side of the magnets (ofcourse you just need to place the magnet on the tin to find out which side is magnetic, if it's not clear).
3) Once you have firmly placed the sticky tape on the back of each magnet you can then peel of the backs of each square to reveal the other sticky side. Which is then ready to be pressed onto the back of each pan.
I try to place each magnet in the center just below the shade name of the pan and then you can just put it in tin. Simples!
Of course if you don't want to stick the magnets to the pan itself you can always stick the magnets into the tin, sticky side down so that the magnet side is showing.
I would do this if I was planning on purchasing a proper palette in the future - but I'm not, so I prefer to stick the magnet to the back of each pan.
As you can see it is THAT simple - I have so far managed to fill three different tins with a mixture of bought eyeshadow and blush pans and a few de-potted eyeshadows from the little Benefit kits. I do need to de-pot a few Natural Collection eyeshadows still, as I find the packaging abit cheap and they are all looking abit worse for wear now.
A really cheap but cute way to store de-potted pans.
Hope this has been helpful!

I'm doing something similar, but different, but it takes some time to be finished. basically yours is cheaper and easier...I'll post pics of my box in the next days. very nice idea
ReplyDeleteI did exactly the same but with a tin of colour pencils. They look like the MUFE tins. The only problem is that it's not magnetised so I need to find sheet of magnet. In the meantime I did the double side sticky thing too.

ReplyDeleteGreat post! I ordered some things to make myself a customizable palette yesterday :) I think Z Palettes etc are ridiculously priced.
ReplyDeleteSuch a cute idea--I love that tin!
ReplyDeleteI use a similar box too keep fragrance samples in - great for a perfume geek like me!
ReplyDeleteThat tin looks way to nice to put sanitary towels in, much prettier than most of the similar designed-for-make-up tins out there.
You really do think outside of the box Fee.
ReplyDeleteThis is a great idea for making your own palettes. The mac one's are so expensive and I don't wanna be lugging around 15 eyeshadows on weekends away etc. Definitely going to be grabbing me one of these and trying this out. Fantastic! xx

ReplyDeleteOooh I wonder if they're bigger than my Moxie tins. I don't use sanitary towels, nor do I really need to pub my pans in a case but I use my Moxie tin to hold essentials like bobbles, plasters, condoms ;) etc but it's full and keeps popping open! Thanks for this!
