10 Beauty Facts That Will Blow Your Mind

Call me addicted to all things beauty, but I love me a beauty fact! The more unusual and interesting the better. But the problem is most articles seem to recycle beauty facts which is pretty boring.

This is why I thought I'd come up with my own blog post of fresh new beauty facts that you hopefully have never heard of before!

Loofahs are made from dried cucumbers - who knew!
If you haven't a clue which loofah I'm going on about then I'm talking the kinda' hard round bath loofah, that I'd always presumed were made from man-made fibers. But according to Wikipedia, it is classed as a vegetable and the scientific name for it is 'Luffa'. The subtropical vine which is part of the cucumber family is grown and then dried out... and believe it or not, you can grow your own loofahs at home if you so desired!

Genetically there are two different hair types: straight and curly. Wavy hair is the result of a person carrying both genes. Mind, blown!

Sally Hansen, you know, original girl boss of the nail polish industry? Wasn't in fact a real person! But Coty is pretending she was!
Many moons ago, after years of loving Sally Hansen nail polish I decided to research the company a bit more, mainly to see what Sally Hansen looked liked. What did I find? Nothing. No company history, no Wikipedia page on the woman herself, no grainy portraint...just nothing! After further digging, I found this interesting transcript of a blogger that phoned the SH customer services helpline to find out more about Sally Hansen and it was confirmed Sally Hansen wasn't, in fact, a real person. However, if you visit SallyHansen.com and view the 'About Us' page you will find - "It was in the late 1950s when Sally Hansen, together with her chemist husband, pioneered a nail protection formula called Hard As Nails". But then why no images or details of Sally Hansen or her unnamed husband anywhere on the internet then? Very suspicious!

Talking nail polish brands, OPI first started out as a dental supply company. With O.P.I actually standing for -  Odontorium Products Inc.

The Face Triangle of Death

The danger triangle of the face consists of the area from the corners of the mouth to the bridge of the nose. Due to the special nature of the blood supply to the nose and surrounding area, it is possible though unlikely, for infections from the nasal area to spread to the brain causing cavernous sinus thrombosis, meningitis or a brain abscess.

People with naturally blonde hair have more hair on their head... around 30,000 more in fact!

Makeup Geek's Cocoa Bear eyeshadow is named after Marlena's (CEO of MG) husband
Okay, not mind blowing but just pretty damn cute! Also if love Makeup Geek as a brand then you may want to check out Marlena's YouTube channel, I've only just discovered it and love all her videos!

There are 16 types of split-ends! Doesn't sound that interesting but by Google search-ing you will be able to find out the types of split ends you personal get, why they happen and how to prevent them.

The reason why we seem to open our mouth when applying mascara?
It's pretty simply... the body instinctively knows it's easier not to blink that way. So it's not just a weird thing we all do after all!

The Queen only wears Essie Ballet Slippers on her nails and has done since the 1980's.

love these pics! So cute! Sally Hansen is so so good! New post/ www.oliviaschueller.com
The mascara fact is funny. I never thought about it like that before. Then of course, I say at my desk trying it out for a minute to see if I actually don't blink when my mouth is open (because I'm me and I do that) and I didn't.

Good to know.

I thought Loofas were a natural sea sponge. Maybe a sea cucumber?
The last fact was my favourite! Ballet Slippers by Essie really is a great colour but I'm not sure that I could wear that exact same shade every single day.... for decades!

Love this :)
That was an incredibly interesting post, I can't believe OPI was originally a dentist company and that Sally Hansen might not exist as a person. I can't believe wavy hair is from the combination of both a straight hair and curly hair gene either, but that does make sense.
