If you suffer from acne, blemishes or have a generally oily skin type then you will know the struggle of finding a non-clogging light SPF that can be used daily on the skin.
Or should that be should have known the struggle because thankfully the beauty industry saw a gap in the market and started to come out with specifically targeted facial sunscreens for different skin types i.e ones for oily gals! Since then blemishes from SPF wear have become a thing of the past for me and I've now tried many light facial sunscreens to varying results! So as we are in the midst of summer it was a perfect time to share my favourites with you!
Here you will find just three facial sunscreen recommendations that I feel are some of the very best SPF products on the market, especially when it comes to catering for oily/blemish prone skin types.
The Body Shop Skin Defence Multi-Protection Essense SPF 50 £16.00/40ml
Oily skin or not, this is without a doubt the best sun cream I've ever tried! It's lighter than light on the skin, it has a pleasant smell, it works well under foundation and even has a cooling effect on the skin! I mean what more could you possibly want from an SPF? Even on my oiliest skin days, the formula of this soaks into the skin instantly, without feeling chalky or leaving a white cast. It also doesn't affect the skin in any way so anyone prone to blemishes will have no problems with using this daily. I really think The Body Shop have taken inspiration from Korean sunscreens here as this is just spot on. Just the most lightweight and perfect high factor sunscreen around!
You can receive a huge 40% off this specific sunscreen until Tuesday with code '19806' making it only £9.60! Also available in a larger 60ml size for £20.00 here again 40% discount with the above code until Tuesday. Highly recommend for daily use, summer days or as your facial sunscreen on holiday.
Bioderma Photoderm Max SPF 50+ £13.05/40ml
Since discovering facial sunscreens I've realised that French skincare brands such as Bioderma and La Roche-Posay offer the most SPF products to suit all skin types. So whether you want a tint, something for dry skin, something for blemish-prone skin, these brands will have you covered in a range of SPF factors. Which is why I love this dry touch offering from Bioderma as it's oh so suitable for my oily skin. This is a touch less lightweight than the above sunscreen but still very suitable and non-tacky on the skin. It also benefits from being water resistant so I almost feel like this doesn't need to be reapplied as often, but of course that all depends on the heat, how much you are sweating and your skin tone. More liquid in formula this makes for a quick application and comes with a more precise nozzle so you can apply it to your finger tip and dab it onto the face. Another amazing formula for oily skin or anyone simply looking for a light feel SPF.
Frezyderm Second Skin Sun Screen SPF 30 £16.99/50ml
Lastly, I had to include a totally unique sun screen that is pretty much a primer and sunscreen in one! This would be my favourite sunscreen over the above Skin Defense Essense from The Body Shop if it wasn't for how bulky the packaging is. Which is its only drawback! However, this is certainly a sunscreen I use before applying my makeup and one I can't be without on holidays. Very similar to a silicone based primer this is a transparent dry feeling gel that easily spreads over the face to give an instant velvet feel to the skin. But what makes it perfect for oily skin is that it mattifies the skin and absorbs any excess oil, making you less likely to get shiny throughout the day and making foundation and concealer apply well. In fact, this is without a doubt the best sunscreen under makeup for oily skin types. Also available in SPF 50+ here.
Facial sunscreen honourable mentions: Benefit Dream Screen SPF 45, La Roche-Posay Anthelios XL Ultra Light Fluid SPF 50+, Eucerin Sun Face Mattifying Fluid SPF 30, Yes To Carrots Daily Facial Moisturiser SPF 15
I hope you've found a new sunscreen favourite with one of these!
