It's that time of year again! Christmas work do's are in full steam and many a family gathering are being had. For me, this means sweat/weatherproof makeup (not so glamorous, I know) and extra sparkle!
So I thought I would give you a rundown of my go-to special occasion makeup, from long-lasting products to the sparkliest makeup products I own!
BASE
For my base, it's all about longevity at this time of year so while I prefer a more silicone base day-to-day I opt for a thin but budge-proof formula with Max Factor Facefinity All Day Primer. I've spoken about this primer before as it's the one product that really keeps my makeup in place all day - it really is impressive! As for foundation I always go with my trusty Charlotte Tilbury Magic Foundation as it blurs the skin and any imperfections a dream and is my go-to evening foundation without fail. As for powder, I do like the Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Flawless Finish Powder generally but for longevity, I opt for Clarins Mineral Loose Powder - I swear I will own the same pot of it in 5 years time as you get such a large amount!
EYES
Onto my favourite part of doing my makeup - the eyes. Only full-on sparkle will do here so I will either pull out a few Makeup Geek Foiled Eyeshadow Pans such as Grandstand and Flamethrower as they are so foiled and pigmented or my do my fail-safe eye with the Charlotte Tilbury The Dolce Vita Luxury Palette which includes four stunning shades, two of which are very shimmery and perfect for the Christmas party season. Then if I want to really go all out I will cover my lids with one of the Stila Magnificent Metals Glitter & Glow Liquid Eyeshadows as they really are full-on glitter without the fallout. These truly are amazing and scream party makeup!
As for eyeliner I always go liquid as it last longer with my go-to being Kat Von D Tattoo Liquid Eyeliner, which really is the best eyeliner I've come across as it just doesn't budge and really is black in colour, going over really shimmery eye looks well.
HIGHLIGHTERS
As for highlighter I don't hold back and will normally go with my favourite powder highlighter; theBalm Mary Lou Manizer, which really is a lovely non-glittery highlighter that adds a good sheen to the cheekbones. But if I'm after a more intense illuminated look I will go for Maybelline Strobe Liquid Highlighter in Light or Iconic London Illuminator drops which really are a liquid metal-like formula.
LIPS
Onto lips next and again I like to opt for something long wearing that can withstand both eating and drinking. My go-to here would be a liquid lipstick for that reason as they simply last longer, however, some do last longer on the lips than others and feel more comfortable, which is why Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipsticks are a favourite for many, with my own favourite shade being Perla. If I want to add a bit of dimension or sparkle I will add the Jouer Lip Topper in Skinny Dip as it doesn't disrupt matte liquid lipstick and adds a new look to a lip. Definitely not for everyone but it really is a lovely glittery lip product that isn't gritty for the price.
Though if I don't mind re-apply, my go-to has to be Charlotte Tilbury Penelope Pink as it's a nude that suits my skin tone well and feels so comfortable and creamy on the lips. Another alternative is a metallic lip, which I'm still not sure how I feel about, with a nice low priced option from L'Oreal here. I would probably go matte on the eyes with this as it is quite a statement!
