January always feels like a hopeful month, with new goals and more positivity... but for some reason it's felt a bit of a 'nothing' month for me.
There has been nothing to really look forward to really and I've felt abit bored especially at the weekends - which does have it's benefits when it comes to beauty products! I end up shopping more...which of course translates to trying out new products.
So this months January Favourites really is jam packed with new loves and of course a few Christmas gifts!
Yves Saint Laurent Faux Cils Mascara
Boots £21.96
If you are looking for a mascara that will give you that clump-free false eyelash look, then this is the mascara for you! Of course price will obviously not have to be an issue as it is on the pricey side. But this is more than worth it if you really want long, full lashes that people actually notice!
This truly is the first mascara that I have thought 'wow' at what it can achieve.

Lord & Berry 20100 Long Lasting Lipstick Crayon
Asos £8.00
I've never really been a lipstick kind of girl due to constantly battling with dry lips and most lipsticks are too drying to wear all day long. However lipstick crayons always seem more creamy and more forgiving on dry lips. But this has to be the nicest I have found. 'Blush' is definitely a 'your lips but better' kind of shade with a slight mauve/pink tone.
You can see a swatch of this below and it's also the lipstick that I'm wearing in my profile picture on the right!
Sue Moxley Baked Bronze 'Miami'
Superdrug £6.00
See swatch at the bottom of the page.
This is so not a bronzer - though it can be found in the 'Baked Bronze' range from the Famous by Sue Moxley collection.
For £6 this is such a beautiful product that gives a slight shimmer/highlight to the skin. Can be either used all over the face to give a more radiant look to foundation or to just highlight along the cheekbones.
From my knowledge there isn't really anything like this on the highstreet that has such a subtle shimmer and isn't too yellowy!
Eco Tools Bamboo Eye Shadow Brush
Boots £5.10
I've spoke about Eco tools several times now, though this really has to be my favourite brush (as well as the angled eyeliner brush). I use it daily to quickly pack on my base eyeshadow... just so soft and does the job perfectly without any fall out. Also just as perfect as when I bought it a year ago!

No7 Smokey Eyeliner Brush
Boots £6.64
This little brush really does more than meets the eye! Perfect for smoking out cream liner along the upper lash line or using with eyeshadow on the lower lash line. Also great for smudging sometimes harsh pencil eyeliner around the eyes or even smoothing out wonky eyeliner applications.
Another brush I now use daily!

Stargazer Ultra Cover Nail Polish '307'
Stargazer website £2.50
The nail polish swatch really does speak for itself - such an amazing, unusual shade for only £2.50! Applies with ease and looks amazing on the nails.

Barry M Clear Top Coat
Asos £3.10
Top coat, base coat, nail hardener...this does everything you need from a clear nail polish. But what I really like about it is the thin consistency which stops any chance of dragging freshly applied nail polish. Also if applied daily to your current nail polish it really does protect from chipping.

Botanics Facial Brush
Boots £6.10
Will definitely do a full review of this as I know it's something that I will be using for a long time to come.
I'd actually go as far as saying this is the manual Clarisonic!
I've been using this for a little over 3 weeks now and it truly has transformed my skin texture. I didn't actually think my skin was too bad (minus having quite a few spots) but this has just made me realise what my skin has been missing out on (I obviously haven't been cleansing as well as I thought I was)! It has removed all the nasty whiteheads on my chin by about 80% and has really tightened my pores around my nose.
I've also noticed that I've been getting alot less spots due to my skin not being as oily from the deep cleanse the brush gives!

I know I have too many favourites but I hope I'd added a few things on your 'to-buy list'!
PS. Questions about any of the products are more than welcome.

YSL faux cils is the best mascara in the world, too bad it dries so fast:(
ReplyDeleteOh, I wanted to buy the Boots brush (also desperate for a clarisonic!), but I thought it would be too harsh for my skin and I didn't like the wooden handle. I was afraid water would seep in and ruin it. I will get one and try it out now! How do you take care of yours? How often do you use it? Thanks! :)
ReplyDeleteWould love to see before and after pics of the mascara, if poss! The lip crayon is a gorgeous colour and I have a feeling Em would love that bronzer/highlighter so will mention it to her. I have very sensitive skin prone to redness, do you think - if used carefully - the brush would be ok? I tend to avoid gritty scrubs as they freak it out but I guess with this you can control the amount of "force" you use.
ReplyDeleteBrilliant favs.
ReplyDeleteI have Sue Moxley's bronzers and the sponge on my list. Every time I go to Superdrug they are sold out!
I agree with the brush having down points but it's good for what you pay for it.

ReplyDeleteI'd love to see before and afters of the mascara too, I'm so fussy when it comes to mascara!xx
ReplyDeleteGreat favs! I LOVE YSL false lash effect mascara, nothing else delivers big lashes like that stuff so def worth the £££ x
ReplyDeleteI've heard so many good things about that no.7 brush, I'll have to check it out when I'm next in Boots. Same with the Eco Tools brushes, I considered buying the set for £14.99 near xmas but was a bit wary since I'd never tried them before!
ReplyDeleteI love reading favourites posts as they always help me create a new shopping list :)
ReplyDeleteI haven't tried any of the items you listed but they all look and sound awesome. I especially like the stargazer polish.
xx

I've still not managed to get a Cosmopolitan sponge yet :( they don't seem to have reached Sheffield superdrug yet!
ReplyDeleteGreat post x
ooh, faux cils! i haven't read a single bad review on that. must.check.out!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for this Fee, I have mixed feelings about Faux Cils, maybe because I bought it on a whim whilst I was and am still enjoying Lancome Precious Cells Hypnose thingy whatsit! So haven't really given it a good go. I need one of those sponges though! Jan x

ReplyDeleteIt really is isn't it?....Really wonder if they will make a better formulation in the future that won't dry up as fast!
@Prettyinthedesert -
I know what you mean about the Botanics Brush...I thought the exact same thing about it - the wood looked soft and the bristles looked abit too harsh.
But it's actually the opposite - the brush itself is so soft on the skin that I can use it for 5 minutes and it doesn't leave my skin red! As for the handle as long as you dry it off it's fine. I use it in the morning with a face wash and then at night with a cream cleanser which is so relaxing and works wonders to remove every bit of grime. Then you just rinse the brush and re-shape it and leave it to dry.
@Debbie -
Yep ofcourse I will...think maybe it will be good to do a post comparing it with the 17 Wild Curls Mascara, which is like the highsteet 'dupe' for it. Must get my eyelashes tinted before I do though as I currently have eyelash roots if that is even possible! As for the brush...I think it would actually be ok for your sensitive skin as the bristles are so soft (I actually applied too much pressure and ruined the middle of it) so it really is just for light use..but even with light use I'm sure it will give a good cleanse and will change the texture of your skin.
@Beauty's Bad Habit -
I actually have the Eco Tools set you mention. Really worth the money I'd say! They are so soft and never shed, such good quality.
@Roshas -
Yep I had trouble finding the brush actually, but finally found it in a large store.
@Dani -
It is an amazing mascara, however abit of a luxury treat really as it does dry up after 3 months! Still my favourite though :)
@Jan -
Oh will have to try out the Lancome thingy whatsit ;) when my Faux Cils dries up! And yes...you need one of them sponges!
Thank you for all your lovely comments!

ReplyDeletestilettosandcigarettes
So far i've only seen good reviews for the botanics facial brush except that it may smell a little when wet. That doesn't bother me so much, but there's a facial brush at the body shop for £3 and I was wondering if anyone knows if it's just as effective as the boots version? thanks again for the great posts Fee :)
ReplyDelete@arianiv -
ReplyDeleteYes it is true, it does have a certain smell to it, almost like straw! But it is something that I can put aside.
I haven't tried the facial brush from The Body Shop however I have been in to have a look at it and to feel the bristles and it did feel abit too harsh as the bristles are plastic.
Thanks for the comment,
Fee
ahh thanks for the advice, i was a bit worried about that but seeing all those positive reviews on the website made me indecisive :P
ReplyDeletelooked online for the boots facial brush and in store but can't find it- is it discontinued?
ReplyDelete@SSG - Yep it's not online for some reason and it's actually quite hard to find in Boots....only seems to be in certain stores.
ReplyDeleteBut if you keep looking you will find one!!
Definitely not discontinued.
