Beauty Annoyances, Facts & Mysteries

beauty_facts

From time to time I pick up different beauty facts and discoveries that just stay with me. So today I thought I would share a few that you may find interesting.

I also thought I may throw in some general beauty annoyances for good measure!

Mysteries

Barry M is owned by 66 year old Barry Mero and looks like this.

Chanel cosmetics is in fact the sister brand of Bourjois... not the other way round like a lot of people believe! Bourjois launched in 1863 and 61 years later Coco Chanel approached the owner of Bourjois to create the first ever line of perfumes. Bourjois & Chanel are now solely owned by the Wertheimer brothers.

Sally Hansen isn't a real person. I really did envisage Sally to be a slender lady with a blonde perm and a pearl necklace... dreams shattered.

Annoyances

Enhanced eyelashes in mascara ads... just why?! However long this is allowed it will annoy me. Utterly ridiculous.

When conditioner, moisturisers and other non-foaming products (that would never contain sulfates) state they're Sulfate-free to appear more 'natural'.

Not looking quite right? That will be forgetting to apply mascara! Doesn't happen often but when it does it's a "how did that happen" moment.

Facts

Nestle (known for selling Coffee/Chocolate) own 1/4 of L'Oreal.

Essie most expensive nail polish, 'I Do' costs $55,000 and is made from powdered platinum - crazy and pointless!

Estee Lauder own a lot of big cosmetic & skin care brands - MAC, Bobbi Brown, Tom Ford, Smashbox, Clinique, Orgins, Jo Malone.

Hope you liked this random post!

That sulphate point is so true - if I ever find sulphates in a conditioner, I'll let you know! I find the Sally Hansen one funny, for some reason I knew it already x
Loved your post!! I hate those mascara commercials. So unrealistic.

The most expensive nail polish is actually Gold Rush Couture by Models Own – $130,000. At least according to this: http://most-expensive.com/nail-polish

The real Barry M looks amazing, I want to know him. :) So true about mascara adverts - please just rely on the product!

I'm slightly disappointed that Sally isn't real! I imagined her to be blonde/slender with fine nails too! :)
I agree on the mascara comment!!

Sally Hansen doesn't exist?! WOW! And LOL at Barry M, bless him! Wonder how he came up with his ideas! I also had no idea Estee Lauder owns so many other companies, really makes you think about the beauty hall of department stores and how much cash they must be making!

I loved this post, can you tell? :)

Great post! Have you seen many more recent mascara adverts though? Because I think they've stopped using false eyelashes! If you look at the average mascara advert now, it will show you a very good lash look that was obviously achieved using the expert work of a makeup artist - but it's achievable and realistic. It doesn't show ridiculous looking falsies or have any small print disclaimer saying that it does! L'oreal in particular have good advertising for their latest mascaras. It seems like they finally listened to us :)
I loved this post! I've found out so many things I didn't know before! :)
