NOTD - Deborah Lippmann Cleopatra in New York

Remember my amazing £5 Deborah Lippmann trio I found in TK Maxx (post here)? Well I thought I would share with you my favourite polish from the three that I am so in love with and have already decided that it will be my NYE nail polish of choice.

Sadly this isn't a shade that's available in the UK however you may strike lucky in TK Maxx or it can definitely be found on eBay... if you love it that much!

Cleopatra in New York is a sheer black nail polish with quite large hexagon shaped gold glitter and smaller glitter. The sheer base does mean it needs to be applied over a opaque black base (I used Avon Rapid Black) but I feel this works in the nail polishes favour as it gives a slightly smokey effect to some of the glitter which definitely gives the nails dimension.

Also when paired with a solid black base only one coat of Cleopatra in New York is needed and it applies amazingly even and smooth... this is were you can tell it's a high end nail polish!

This also dries with a glossy finish and quite a smooth feel for a chunk glitter nail polish. Again another sign this is a high end nail polish. However I did end up applying a coat of Seche Vite out of habit!

Cleopatra in NY really is an amazing nail polish that I would 100% class as a 'grown-up glitter' and one for special occasions. Would I purchase this full price? Well maybe not at full, full price at £17-20 but I would definitely purchase it at around the £10 mark. This really has confirmed I need 'Happy Birthday' in my life now as the quality of Deborah Lippmann nail lacquers are amazing.

With a nail polish that isn't available in the UK I feel a suggested dupe is needed and from a little look on Google I'd say the closest to this is Barry M Gold Mine Glitter which is smaller hexagonal gold glitter held in a black base (nail swatches can be seen here on Polished Criminails).

Quite a bargain at £2.99!

I wanted to ask if you applied a top coat and saw that you did, I find some glitter varnishes chip even with a top coat, how is this lasting?

I know what you mean, I think it's because they are so thick they chip off so easily. This really didn't, I'm thinking because it's such a good quality one... so just tip wear. But it was a nightmare to remove!

£2.99 - that is so good! LOVE the look of this. I created a similar look by combining a black polish with a gold glitter but this is much nicer!

This polish looks as if it's taken ages to perfect - but all that depth, at £2.99 for the Barry M dupe? When does superdrug open? Does anyone have a tent I can borrow?

Wow, gorgeous. And it so shiny! Why doesn't my TJ Maxx get great polishes like that?
