Recently I've taken to wishing summer away in favour of Autumn. I'm such a homebody that I love nothing more than cosy days spent on the sofa with blankets (yes, plural) watching a seasonal drama or movie. However, I realised there's enough time for that when Autumn arrives and I really should embrace the last month or two of summer!
So that is what I'm doing! Well, when it decides to stop raining that is. This means you can expect quite a few more summer themed posts here on Makeup Savvy, starting with my summer day essentials.
Mirrored Designer Style Sunglasses
Hi, my name is Fiona and I'm a serial sunglasses collector. Yes, that is me! Thankfully I'm aware luxury sunglasses aren't essential so I mainly own highstreet sunnies, eBay buys and the odd mid-priced glasses from the likes of Quay and Le Spec. However, it seems I may have curbed my addiction with the above gorgeous subtle rose gold mirrored glasses because I can't get enough of them and now see no reason to buy yet enough pair. And the amazing thing about them... they're from eBay and cost only £2.65! I know, I still can't quite believe it myself. These really are very similar to much more designer sunglasses and I've even been impressed with the quality as I was sure the lenses would scratch easily, but they haven't yet and I've had them for over a year now. I alternate between these and my prescription sunglasses but also the black version depending on what I'm wearing. Again, these are super chic and I love the red/orange mirrored lenses to them.
Topshop Kylie Bird Embroidery Cross Body Bag (also in-store)
In the past few years I've slowly transitioned to much more compact bags in the summer months. They hold a lot less but I've found that is only a good thing! Plus they are much better to carry around on a hot summers day, no shoulder ache or rummage around for a good 5 minutes to find a lip balm. So this summers handbag purchase was the fairly compact Topshop KYLIE Bird Embroidery Cross Body Bag in a nude/blush tone that I find goes with everything. For Topshop this is a very affordable bag at only £26 yet the attention to detail hasn't been skipped, with a weighty chain strap and matching hardware to the highly detailed embroidery work that is sewn on rather than stuck on. It surprisingly holds all of my summer essentials and is an all round lovely bag! Also available in red and black (more likely to be in stock in-store rather than online!).
The Body Shop Skin Defence Multi-Protection Essence SPF50
A few weeks ago now I shared some of my favourite lightweight facial SPF's and of course, this one made the cut. Perfect on all skin types this Korean inspired sun cream soaks into the skin in seconds leaving no trace behind. This makes it the most perfect SPF for under makeup but also it's the one I carry in my handbag for touch-ups throughout the day as it's light enough to carefully apply over makeup without disrupting it too much (you may need to touch-up with concealer after applying it). I only feel like this is needed on hot days but when it is I now don't need to worry that I will breakout due to applying more layers of product to my skin in the heat - it really is that lightweight! I really would recommend this SPF to everyone!
EOS Sphere Lip Balm
Without realising it I have built up quite the collection of EOS lip balms however I'm not complaining as I love them! These dome shaped balms come in the widest range of flavours imaginable and offer a sweep of hydration to the lips without any stickiness. They also apply nicely due to their shape. Favourite flavours/scents would be Lemon Drop, Sweet Mint, Coconut Milk and Raspberry - I told you I liked them! However, only the SPF 15-30 balms make their way into my handbag for that protection on hot days. I'm a lip balm fan in general but these really are my trusty to-go's in summer.
Bath & Body Works Pocket Bac Hand Sanitizer
Come summer months impromptu al fresco eating happens a lot. From beach BBQ days to picnics in the park and even just grabbing a M&S sandwich on the go. So every handbag isn't without a hand sanitizer. I now rely on them so much that the basic ones won't do and I've got a bit of a problem with buying B&BW Pocket Bacs from eBay. They aren't that much more than the ones you would find in the likes of Boots & Superdrug but they smell so much nicer and the scent actually lasts without being able to taste it as you're eating. My favourite scent this summer has to be Copacabana Coconut as it's such a summer cocktail scent. Side note - I also find these work well when public toilets annoyingly don't have soap!
So there you have it my true summer day essentials!
Let me know what you can't live without in the summer months.
