When it comes to pampering there's nothing quite like applying a face mask. Not only does it benefit the skin but it forces you to sit down and relax for 5-20 minutes. For that reason, I always prefer a comfortable face mask which feels refreshing on and leaves the skin happy and hydrated.
So because I'm having a moment with gel face masks right now and because winter is fast approaching, a season when we can all do with a dose of hydration, I thought I would round up some of my favourite face masks for the job - both budget-friendly and ones worth the splurge.
I should also point out that all face masks is this post smell incredible!
ON A BUDGET HYDRATING FACE MASKS
Mizon Enjoy Fresh-On Time Revital Lime Mask (100ml)
£7.50 Look Fantastic HERE
First up we have a pretty budget mask from Korean skincare brand, Mizon. Although I'm not familiar with Mizon (I want to try more though!) I came across this mask on Look Fantastic and liked the sound of a lime mask. And lime it is! Both is colour and scent this is one juicy face mask that applies as a clear gel and doesn't set or dry on the skin. Great if you like a comfortable and fresh feel as you let your mask get to work. Wih Bilberry Fruit and Lime Extract, both rich in Vitamin C, this mask aims to combat dullness, whilst delivering long-lasting moisture and hydration. I'm not too sure on the moisture part, I don't notice much, but once washed off your skin will feel plumper, hydrated and smooth. Pretty impressive for the low price! Hydration Score: 4/5
Vichy Double Glow Peel Mask (75ml)
£12.75 Escentual HERE
Another budget offering that offers a really good glow after use is the Vichy Double Glow Peel Mask. This also comes in a handy two-use sachet for only £2.55, perfect if you want to try it out or for travel. With two types of exfoliation in this mask, from a physical gritty exfoliator to chemical AHA's (deprived from fruit acids) this face mask aims to thoroughly exfoliate within five minutes to give an instant glow, which it does... think brighter, smoother skin. I would say that due to the almost micro dermabrasion treatment when washing off the mask this isn't a one for sensitive skin and may leave normal skin types with some temporary redness, although it's not potent but simply effective! As for hydration, the gel mask contains Vichy Thermal Spring water which feels soothing and does hydrate a little but it's not the main focus. The mask also cleverly comes with a mirror on the top of the lid which I thought was pretty ingenious! A good quality mask that is certainly one for anyone that loves exfoliating treatments. Hydration Score: 3/5
SPLURGE WORTHY HYDRATING FACE MASKS
Fresh Vitamin Nectar Face Mask
£23.00 (30ml) HERE or £56.00 (100ml) HERE
If you're a reader of my skincare posts then you may have seen me mention this mask quite a few times in the past 6 months - because I can't get enough of it! Described as a concentrated citrus fruit blend of crushed oranges, lemons, and clementines that helps gently refine the appearance of the skin to soften, smooth, and improve clarity this truly the fruitiest and freshest face mask I've ever come across. It literally smells like the juiciest orange marmalade (the kind of product you are tempted to taste but resist) and pretty much looks like it too, especially with the jam-like texture and real orange pieces.
On the skin it's a nice transparent mask that quickly dries down to a non-tight shiny and oddly smooth finish which washes off with ease, leaving an all-round boosted complexion. Basically, this will give you bright, smoother, hydrated skin that will feel healthy! If my skin is feeling lacklustre this is the mask I always turn to and it never fails to give my skin an instant boost that actually lasts for a day or two. This is also a face mask I like to use before applying makeup as it doesn't leave the skin in the least bit red and due to its hydrating properties will make foundation blending and sit on the skin a dream. It is on the higher price for a mask but it's oh so worth it! Hydration Score: 4/5
GlamGlow ThirstyMud Hydrating Treatment
£16.00 (15g) HERE or £42 (50g) HERE
Finally, if we are talking hydration then it would feel wrong not to mention the Glamglow ThirstyMud Hydrating Treatment. This has to be the ultimate hydrating face mask as it instantly remedies both dry and dehydrated skin to leave it feeling smooth and nourished. Again, another comfortable feeling mask that doesn't really dry down and smells amazing - it makes me think of a tropical holiday as the scent is a combination of shea butter and coconut. Unlike the other masks I have mentioned this can be wiped off or massaged into the skin, depending on the level of hydration you are after. You can even use it as an overnight mask or in place of a moisturiser before makeup. I've also found it to be great for slightly sunburnt skin and perfect for keeping the skin hydrated on a flight!
If you haven't tried this and like the sound of it then I'd highly recommend trying the 15g mini first as only a little is required per application and it will allow you to really test out the mask. Simply the best face mask for dehydrated skin! Hydration Score: 5/5
