If your makeup doesn't withstand the day
Try: Max Factor Facefinity All Day Primer
For the most part primers do a good job of making my makeup last however come that hormonal time of the month or on particularly hot summer days I need something more. Which is how I came across Max Factors All Day Primer as I'd heard good things about it and their base products had always worked welll for me in the past. While the dry feeling serum primer doesn't seem like it will do much for your makeup staying power on application it surprisingly works above and beyond, extending makeup wear time by hours and keeping everything in place! On days when I want to ensure my makeup stays put this is the one and only primer I reach for.
Panda eyes by 11am?
Try: It Cosmetics Superhero Mascara
Raccoon eyes have never been on trend and never will and although waterproof mascara can solve the problem they really aren't ideal for everyday wear due to the heavy duty formula that can not only put stress on lash roots but also be harder to remove at the end of the day! So a normal formual mascara it is and thankfully I feel I've found one of the longest wearing formulas that is still easy to remove. This was an instant purchase for me after trying out a sample size and being beyond impressed by the volume it gave my eyelashes and the fact it didn't smudge under my eyes - at all. For someone that does have a problem with oily eyelids that always results in racoon eyes this is a big deal and I had to simply share my budge-proof find with you!
When all setting powders make your skin look too matte
Try: Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Flawless Finish Powder
While I always set my makeup with face powder I've never been a fan of that flat matte look that powders can often give even when wearing a dewy foundation underneath. I've tried countless setting powders now and although some are better than others it's easy to apply a little too much and you are stuck with an over matte finish that you then have to try to rescue with highlighters and blotting with tissue. However, towards to end of last year, I found one of the lightest pressed powders to have ever graced my face. This delicate powder is almost like a veil or dusting that perfectly diffuses the skin and while mattifying allows the dewiness of the skin to still shine through. An ideal powder for dry to normal skin types.
Ridges nails you don't want to weaken by buffing
Try: Butter London Nail Foundation Priming Base Coat
With age comes ridged nails and although this problem can be solved with an inexpensive buffing tool this will lead to a weakened nail bed and isn't a long-term solution. However, a topical remedy is a ridge filling base coat that you can wear alone or under nail polish to create a smooth surface. Butter London is my opinion offer the best one as it not only looks natural on bare nails but creates a perfect base under even metallic finish nail polishes which are often the worst finishes for highlighting ridges in the nails. The base coat also benefits from preventing the nails been stained overtime with nail polish. Definitely a nail product I couldn't be without!
If you're still seeing regular breakouts in your 20's
Try: La Roche Posay Effaclar Purifying Cleansing Gel
If you have blemish prone skin then you may have tried something from the La Roche Posay Effaclar Duo range before, however it may not have been your first thought to try out their cleanser. It looks pretty basic and I think most of us like to stay clear of astringent seeming skincare products these days. But you would be wrong to think this cleanser from La Roche Poshe was similar. The cleansing gel which you can use to cleanse bare skin in the AM and after removing makeup with an oil cleanser in the PM is formulated for oily sensitive skin types being importantly soap-free (not SLS nasties here) and PH balanced (why I initially bought it). The light foaming gel eliminates impurities and excess sebum from the skin while leaving it feeling comfortable yet clean. A perfect cleanser to remedy blemish prone skin. Oh, and it can also be used as a body wash!
Never found a daily facial sunscreen light enough for oily skin?
Try: The Body Shop Skin defence Multi-Protection Essence SPF 50
If you care about your skincare routine then you should also care about protecting your skin with a high SPF on a daily basis. Tthis can be tricky if you have oily skin that is prone to breakouts as a lot of sunscreens aren't light enough in formula to be used on the face. But thankfully there are a few brands that have come out with some amazing offering in the last few years. Namely, The Body Shop Multi-Protection Essence SPF 50 which is a Korean inspired sunscreen perfect for all skin types especially oiler ones. This high SPF is a light milk consistency that soaks into the skin with ease giving not only protection to the skin but providing a nice base for makeup to be applied onto. The only facial sunscreen my combination skin isn't affected by and doesn't even feel like it's there!
