Around this time of year, as the leaves begin to fall and there's a pleasant chill in the air, I find myself naturally changing up the makeup products I use. From deeper shades on my eyes to different tones on my nails.
So I thought I'd run down the products I'm purposefully changing up in my makeup bag this autumn/winter in hope to give a little makeup inspiration. I also kind of love talking autumn makeup in general!
Burgundy Eyeliner
A few weeks ago now I scrolled past an amazing autumnal eye look on Instagram and what set it apart from other autumnal makeup looks was the amazing burgundy eyeliner flick - I hate to use the tern but it kinda' made everything 'pop'. I've considered giving colourful eyeliner a go in the past, for all of a minute I should add, but decided against it as black is simply my go-to to further define the eyes along with mascara.
But burgundy is pretty chic, right? And perfect for this time of year! I'm actually surprised burgundy eyeliner isn't more of a thing.
So I went on the hunt for an affordable burgundy liquid eyeliner and I finally found one in the form of L'Oreal Matt Signature Liquid Eyeliner in Burgundy for only £8.99. A precise firm nib eyeliner that offers a subtle hint of burgundy to the eye that can be just seen behind black mascara. The formula isn't perfect as it can crack a little by the end of the day if you over apply, however it does give a stunning finish to any autumnal eye. Alternatively, I found L.A Girl Fineline Eyeliner in Plum which looks like a winner as it's in an easier pen-style eyeliner, although it does lean a little more purple.
Autumnal Nail Polish
As soon as the leaves start to change colour I begin to think about what shades I want to wear on my nails. It's the easiest change you can make and often the most fun, especially if you add a little copper or gold glitter over the top of your manicure.
While I have a full post up in a few days on my own noteworthy nail polishes for Autumn, the latest Essie Sweater Weather collection has really caught my eye this year. You can see the full range here, (available in both Boots and Superdrug) which I'm sure you'll agree is just perfect; my favourite shade is suprisingly 'Hay There' as it's a corn yellow I just wouldn't have thought to wear at this time of year but love the look of!
Another autumn collection that's caught my eye is the new Barry M Green Origin range that consists of eight autumn-ready shades for only £3.99 each!
However, if you are adventurous when it comes to your nails then you may want to stock up on both brown and yellow nail polishes and try out the tortoise nail art trend. I've personally been meaning to give this a go as the effect looks so luxe, but I've yet to find the perfect yellow nail polish that it requires. There are a lot of nail tutorials online for gel tortoise nails but I managed to find one using nail polish here that is very easy to follow!
A Smokey Autumn-perfect Eyeshadow Palette
Another simple makeup change for Autumn is with eyeshadow, this could be using deeper tones in existing eyeshadow palette you use and love or treating yourself to something new. Copper tones I personally feel flatter everyone and look instantly smokey even by using just two shades. While berry hues can really flatter green and blue eyes a treat. Below I have a few eyeshadow palette recommendations all of which are ideal for this time of year.
Under £15 Autumn Eyeshadow Palettes - Zoeva Voyager Caramel Melange Eyeshadow Palette (£14), Revolution Pro New Neutral Shadow Palette (£12), Morphe 15D Day Slayer Artistry Palette (£15), Revolution Pro Supreme Intoxicate Eye Shadow Palette (£6)
Under £40 Autumn Eyeshadow Palettes - Pixi Eye Reflection Shadow Palette (£24), Too Faced Extra Spicy Eye Palette - Gingerbread (£39), Huda Beauty Obsessions Precious Stones Topaz Eyeshadow Palette (£25), Nars Voyageur Eyeshadow Palette (£28)
Deep Nude Lipstick
I've come to the conclusion that I'm simply not one to take risks with lipstick and like to keep things neutral so while a berry lip can look amazing I'm just never sure about it for myself. I'm also too self-conscious to eat with any kind of bold lip going on! So while I stick to nude shades 365 days of the year I do think you can go deeper while sticking to a neutral palette.
My go-to lipstick is Charlotte Tilbury Pillowtalk however CT Very Victoria is a touch darker and perfect for pairing with a copper smokey eye. I'm also a huge fan of the array of nude shades in the Huda Beauty Liquid Matte range, they also benefit from being beyond lightweight while lasting all day.
But if you fancy picking up a deeper nude on a budget then you can't go wrong with quite a few of the shades in the Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet Liquid Lipstick collection, from Trendy Beige to Light Brown, all shades come in a flattering velvet finish which truly flatters the lips.
I truly believe one or two new products each season can be enough to change up your makeup. So I hope I've given a few ideas here! I think I will be treating myself to a deeper nude everyday lipstick soon along with a few new nail polishes, most likely from Essie's new Sweater Weather collection.
