As the temperature dips, I find myself using lip balms daily and with a slightly excessive stash I enjoy the fact I get to use lip balms more. So today I thought I'd run through my favourite lip balms for dry lips, from under £2 to a pricey £21!
Side note/question: Do you believe using lip balms perpetuates dry lips? I'm really not sure if I believe it! I think over applying can have the opposite effect but using a lip balm as and when needed really does keep dry lips at bay for me or helps remedy them at least. What are your thoughts on this?
Badger Sweet Orange Lip Balm (£3.86)
I discovered Badger lip balms last year and aside from falling in love with the sweet-looking badger holding a magic wand on the packaging I also adored that while totally organic they had the best range of lip balm flavours.
Of course, it's not all about the flavour/scent but it's certainly part of it, which is why my favourite is the Badger Sweet Orange Lip Balm that combined with the natural cocoa smells and tastes like Terry's Chocolate Orange - so moreish and yummy! The beeswax and extra virgin olive oil-based balm also glides over the lips well, but more so at room temperate, keeping them nourished for quite a few hours.
If like me you're a bit obsessed with lip balm flavours then you can pick up a set of four Badger lip balms for £12.99 so you can have a yummy flavoured lip balm to hand wherever you are.
Fresh Sugar Dream Lip Treatment Advanced Therapy (£21.50)
I like to think because this is a hybrid lip balm come lip tint that £20+ is justified, especially as I keep it with my lipstick collection, but yes, I'm not going to lie - this is one pricey lip balm! However, it's a tint that moisturises the lip very well and it's by Fresh - enough said.
Price aside, this sheer pink tint lip treatment for dry/chapped lips is very pretty and universally flattering I would say. It's sheer looking yet creamy feeling and while tackling dry lips it soothes fine lines and generally adds a youthful look to the lips what suits all makeup looks.
This is my go-to when the weather is simply too cold for a matte lipstick and I have to leave the house (you can tell I'm an introvert!). Comfortable, nicely scented and pretty looking!
Blistex Relief Cream (£2.69)
Blistex Relief Cream is one of those products that everyone knows about and has been around forever, for good reason. It isn't the best smelling of products (it's not bad, but it's got a certain smell to it) and it does give a warming effect to the lips but it certainly soothes and repairs the driest of lips.
When I'm suffering from really dry lips, generally after a cold, or have chapped lips to the corners of my mouth I will apply Blistex at night as it does give a white cast to the lips and let it work its wonders. You can also moisturise it into the lips to bring down the white cast if you need to apply it during the day. Yes, it does feel a bit medical but then Blistex describe it as a medicated relief for cracked, chapped and sore lips.
Alternatively, on a similar line without the scent or tingle effect, I do swear by Bepanthan Nappy Care Ointment (£3.30) as a solution for sore, chapped lips. Again you will probably want to apply this only at night due to the white cast it gives the lips but it will truly sort out all dry skin issues. It's also great for those with sensitive skin.
Glossier Balm Dotcom (£10)
As lip balm ranges go, this is one of my favourites. The little you require versus the generous 15ml size tube makes the £10 price tag worth it, along with all the enticing flavours. Although let's just say I was always going to love a range that included a birthday cake flavour!
Described as hydrating, multipurpose lip balms and skin salves packed full of antioxidants that feel like a moisturising comfortable oil on the lips I feel most would struggle to dislike anything about them. Of course the four tinted options out of the eight available flavours you wouldn't be wanting to use as skin salves however they are a similar kind of product to Dr. Paw Paw Balms just a little sheerer and lightweight.
Shamefully I own 5 Balm Dotcom Lip Balms with my favourites being Birthday for every day, Mint for cold weather and Rose for a light pink tint. You can grab 10% off all Glossier products including these lovely balms here with my referral code that automatically applies at the checkout.
Palmer's Cocoa Butter Formula Lip Balm (£1.99)
Last but not least, I wanted to include a super budget lip balm that is actually most favourite all-time balm. Palmer's know how to do skin nourishing products well and this translates to a buttery feeling lip balm that not only feels non-sticky and comfortable on the lips but highly moisturising as well. A wonder balm for dry lips in winter!
I also love the cocoa butter flavour that tastes chocolatey but not overpowering. This is the only lip balm I've used up and repurchased quite a few times now. Side note: I sadly forgot to include this lip balm in my images because it was in my handbag - oops!
I've love to know your favourite lip balm, especially for the winter months!
Fee xo.
